TOS Travel Kits E-book ~ A Review

travelkit

Travel Kits: A Simple Way to Bless Others is a 93-page e-book published by The Old Schoolhouse Magazine that is chock-full of ideas that you can use to create a one-of-a-kind travel kit for a child, a teenager, a mom or dad, or even an entire family.  Travel kits can be used to keep kiddos happily occupied while spending time in the car during errands, short day-trips, or week-long treks across the country.  Travel kits can even be created to keep little hands and minds (and big hands and minds) busy during long plane flights…this is how we are planning to use our travel kits :)

Furthermore, the author, Donna Rees, suggests that while travel kits are a wonderful blessing for your own family, preparing a travel kit for another family is unique way to love and serve others.

In this information-packed e-book, Mrs. Rees guides you through the entire process of creating a travel kit ~ from planning the who, what, when, where, why and how of the kit, to the final presentation of the basket (or bag) of blessings (otherwise known as a travel kit)…and all of the steps in between.

It’s the “all of the steps in between'” part that blew me away.  In this e-book you’ll find pages and pages of ideas for things that can you can use to fill your travel kits, from lollipops and picture books to card games and plastic snakes.

I especially appreciate the fact that Mrs. Rees not only gives general suggestions for items, she also gives detailed information about items that she has found to be wonderful additions to the travel kits that she has created.  For example, she doesn’t just say that games are good to include, she recommends specific games and provides directions on how to play the games or links to those games that can be purchased (if applicable).

There are also many extras included in this e-book: suggestions for theme baskets, creative and unique packaging ideas, and even a listing of the official tourism website for each state (just to name a few).

I also appreciate the author’s reminder that travel kits are not just for your own kiddos…you can prepare a travel kit in order to bless others.  Do you know a busy mom whose family is preparing for a long road-trip, or a nervous teenager preparing for their first mission trip, or a even a family who has been spending lots of time in a hospital waiting room?  I imagine that all of these people would be blessed by a travel kit that you prepared especially for them.

While the focus of this e-book is on creating travel kits for younger children who will be travelling by car, Mrs. Rees does provide some suggestions for items that can be used to fill a travel kit for a teenager or an adult.  And I can attest to the fact that the ideas in this e-book can be easily adapted for travel kits to be used on an airplane :).  Even as I am writing this review, our family is preparing for a our first plane trip…and it’s gonna be a long one ~ we’re heading across the country.

If you have a long road trip in your family’s future, if you spend lots of time with your kiddos in the car, or if you are simply looking for a unique way to bless other families, I believe that Travel Kits: A Simple Way to Bless Others would be a wonderful resource for you.
